Reaching 20–25 metres, kawa has a narrow to open crown and is unpalatable to possums. A great conservation tree, kawa are best suited to sheltered areas, on moist slopes. New greenish-bronze foliage appears late September. Kawa keeps its foliage longer than the × euramericana hybrids and has a beautiful autumn colouration.
