Reaching 20-25 metres, kawa have a narrow to open crown and are unpalatable to possums. A great conservation tree, kawa are best suited to sheltered areas, on moist slopes. New greenish-bronze foliage appears late September. Kawa keeps its foliage longer than the x euramericana hybrids and has a beautiful autumn colouration. This variety is one of the densest poplars, weighing up to 360kg per cubic metre, making them the leading timber producing poplar species.
