We are Lavello Estate, a family-owned and operated nursery. We grow a variety of products including lavender, poplar trees, willow trees and mushrooms. We also host several beehives with the help of City Slicker Honey. The nursery began 14 years ago, supplying poplar and willow poles for environmental engineering solutions. We are thrilled to be expanding our repertoire with new technology and environmentally friendly options for growth.
Robert is one of our directors, and he has been involved with environmental innovation in New Zealand for the past 20 years. Raised within a local farming family, the outdoors has been his playground for most of his life. He is involved in both the research and planning of the nursery, as well as the physical labour required to implement these plans.
Having already established the tree sector of the farm and the market that these are sold within, Robert’s current focus is on his mushrooms. By using the waste timber on the farm to germinate the mushrooms, we are working towards a sustainable life cycle. Once the mushrooms have taken to the logs, we hope to supply into the pharmaceutical and health food markets. This is only the beginning step of our vision within this sector, so watch this space!
Rebecca is our other executive and with a background in aromatherapy, she appreciates the natural, holistic treatments that are made possible using essential oils such as Lavender. Our first few rows of lavender were planted over a year ago, in 2020. With lavender plants taking a couple of years to mature, our plan is to gradually expand these rows. Until the lavender is ready to be extracted for essential oils, it will create a beautiful source of food for the beehives on the farm.
We are only in the early stages of these various projects, but we are so excited to share our journey and progress with you!
